Throughout the course of our time in the AEC and built environment industries, we've collectively worked for over 45 years both internally for companies and as consultants for clients. Emily has experience with clients at an agency and also in house for large contractors (providing services for those companies' clients too). Her crisis communications passion and love for all destination, sports, and hospitality marketing is what brought her to consulting. Ryan is still an engineer, but he's dedicated his leadership and expertise to developing and implementing growth strategies, company strategic planning, perfecting the client experience, and relationship management. Together they work efficiently, creating great value for clients with minimal overhead. Whether you are looking for a full service scope of work, or a small team or individual to supplement your efforts, we are here to collaborate.

Emily is a senior-level communications, marketing, digital enablement, and public relations professional with over twenty-four years of professional experience. Most recently she has worked with and for major, multi-billion dollar general contractors such as Barton Malow Company and JE Dunn Construction, to lead strategic marketing, communications efforts, including external communication and messaging strategy, digital and social media strategy, crisis communications, media relations, and internal employee engagement communications. Her clients included major sports and entertainment venues, healthcare, automotive, and hospitality.
Emily has also worked on the agency side as an account supervisor and client relationship manager for industries such as architecture/engineering, hospitality/travel/tourism, and sports/entertainment. While at VML, a branch of the world's largest advertising/PR agency, she worked with clients including AECOM, Ernst & Young, HSBC Bank, Dell, TurboTax, Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association, and Oceania Cruises.
Emily was named to Ingrams Magazine's Top 40 under Forty awards program for young professionals in the Kansas City metro area. Awards and titles, although kind and wonderful, only tell part of the story; her true passion is telling the story of others - buildings, trends, thought leadership, the future of the built environment, destination marketing, and so much more.
Emily speaks at regional and national conferences on the topics of crisis communications, AI integrity, the 24-hour news cycle, and public relations.

Ryan has spent the last 25+ years in the AEC industry, all with Schaefer. He started out as an engineering co-op and went full time as an engineer upon graduating from the University of Cincinnati. He moved through the engineering ranks and into a leadership position focusing primarily on strategy, planning and revenue generation. In his current role as executive vice president for Schaefer, he is responsible for guiding the firm’s strategic growth and vision for the future.
Ryan opened Schaefer’s Columbus, Ohio office in 2006 and relocated to Phoenix in 2018 to cultivate relationships and build the Phoenix office. At Schaefer he has been a key driver of geographic expansion, brand oversight, development of a robust marketing and business development department, and a structured, formalized annual planning process.
Most recently Ryan has become an advocate for developing and implementing client experience strategy, both at his firm and consulting with many others. He also speaks on this topic at conferences and industry events.
Ryan has been a member of SMPS since 2007 and served in several board positions including president of the Columbus Chapter. He is a past presenter at Build Business, SMPS national conference and is a member of ICSC, ULI, and NAIOP.
